NORTH ATLANTA DANCE ACADEMY
“RECITAL 2011”
INFORMATION AND DIRECTIVES
Dear Parents and Dancers,
We are fast approaching our 2011 recital. This packet is to inform you of how the recital week works and to answer anticipated questions.
The recital dates are SATURDAY, MAY 28 & SUNDAY, MAY 29. They will take place at the BLESSED TRINITY FINE ARTS THEATER located on the campus of BLESSED TRINITY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL @ 11320 WOODSTOCK ROAD, ROSWELL.
Dancers should arrive at the theater one hour before the show time. Those performing on pointe arrive 1 ½ hours before show time for an onstage warm up 1 hour before show time. Hair and makeup should be done and dancers should be wearing the appropriate tights. Please be sure that you have all items necessary for your child to go on stage. There is nothing worse than realizing something has been forgotten and the panic that results. Parents, please drop your student off at the check in table in the back hallway. Dancers will be escorted to the cafeteria waiting area by teachers and backstage helpers. Then proceed to the lobby. Please do not come backstage to visit or bring snacks during intermission! Your dancer is well supervised and enjoying the time backstage. We need your cooperation to keep the intermission short.
Every effort has been made to keep siblings in the same show, but it is likely some schedules will not work. Dancers taking 2 or more classes per week may or may not be in multiple shows.
We are looking for volunteers to assist backstage for each of the shows. You will still be able to watch your dancer on stage. If you can help, please contact Kitty, she will be VERY appreciative!
The backstage waiting area is one large room. Please bring as little stuff with you as possible. It would be a good idea, however, to bring books or coloring books, etc., for your younger dancers who will be waiting backstage for extended times.
PLEASE PUT YOUR DANCERS NAME ON ALL ITEMS INCLUDING COSTUMES, SHOES, EXTRA MAKEUP KITS, ETC. AND WHICH PIECE THE DANCER IS IN. ANY ADDITIONAL MAKEUP ITEMS SHOULD BE IN A BAG OR POUCH WITH THE STUDENT’S NAME ON IT IN CASE ANYTHING GETS MISPLACED. IN GENERAL, LABEL OR MARK EVERYTHING!
Dancers who are performing in two or more pieces are to arrive prepared for their first number. Additional costumes with accessories should be on hangers and clearly marked with name and class. Clear zipper dress bags are excellent.
SHOES and TIGHTS
Ballet & Pointe classes : Very Clean or new Ballet Pink tights and ballet slippers are required.
Tap, Modern & Character classes : Light Suntan (Capezio) or Light Tan (Bloch) tights.
Jazz - Black tights or Socks
When in doubt –ASK THE TEACHER or Kitty
PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO
No videos or photography of any kind is allowed during performances!
Personal videos and non-flash photography may be taken during DRESS REHEARSALS ONLY.
Professional High Definition DVDs of each performance will be produced by Pointe DVD. You may pre-order yours at the studio or in the lobby during the performances. DVDs make great gifts for grandparents and other relatives or friends who can’t attend the recital. Taking flash photos during a performance is dangerous for the dancers. Holding up video cameras with lighted screens is very distracting to the audience members sitting around you. Please enjoy the live performance without these distractions.
RECITAL PORTRAITS
We will be taking portrait photographs of students in costume here at the studio.
SATURDAY, MAY 7 2:30 PM – 7:30 PM
SUNDAY, MAY 8 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM
An appointment book will be located at the front desk to schedule a time for your dancer to be photographed. Keiko Guest is an excellent photographer and as a dancer, she knows how to pose young dancers to look their best. The basic package priced at $50 includes 1-8X10, 2-5X7 and 8 wallets. These portraits make wonderful keepsakes and gifts. You will be able to choose the image(s) you prefer on the spot and the package(s )will be available for pick up here at the studio in two weeks.
FLOWERS
It is traditional to present dancers with a bouquet of flowers after a fine performance! The kids really love them! For your convenience, you may pre-order your dancer’s bouquet at the studio and pick them up in the lobby at the theater, or you may purchase them at the theatre the day of the show (limited quantity). This has proven to be a very popular time saver for busy parents and out of town family members. Proceeds benefit North Atlanta Dance Theatre, our performing company.
TICKETS
Each student will be charged a $50.00 recital fee. This covers the cost of theater rental, lighting and sound technicians, printing programs and tickets, sets, etc. Each family will be issued four (4) tickets for Shows 1, 2, and 3. The Mini Show has fewer dancers, and will have eight (8) tickets per family available. This is based on the number of dancers in each show and number of seats in the theatre. Tickets will NOT be issued until your account is paid in full. If you do not need all your tickets, please return your extras to the front desk so we can get them to someone who needs an extra seat! If you need additional tickets and would like to be on the waiting list, they will be issued on a first come first serve basis. Our goal is a great audience for our dancers!
Recital is an exciting time for everyone! Performing on-stage is why we all work so hard and is what makes it worthwhile! We know our families and friends will proudly applaud the grace, beauty and achievements of each of our dancers!

Recital Make-up
Make-up is necessary for performance because faces wash out under stage lighting ! Note: Absolutely No Jewelry or Colored Nail Polish!
Make-up should be heavier than street make-up. Please apply make-up at home.
· Deep red lipstick (non-smear) Lipliner helps
· Brown eyebrow pencil for light eyebrows
· Earthtone eye shadow (NO blue or purple)
· Black or dark brown eyeliner (if you know how to apply) Mascara –Lots!
(False lashes are good for levels III-IV, IV and V)
· Blush should closely match lip color - Use more than you think
stage lighting really erases most of the color
HAIR
All Ballet classes MUST have a bun. No Bangs, No
“wispies”, no parts. Please use gel or hairspray on
or in the hair before making the ponytail. Slightly
damp hair is much easier to work with. Lots of
bobby pins and an invisible hair net (available at
drug stores, grocery stores, Target, etc. Please
note hair nets are generally one-time use. They
come in blonde, brunette, etc., and 2 or 3 per pack.
Character and Modern Classes require a bun also,
unless otherwise specified by the teacher. Jazz and
Tap usually have a ponytail – Ask your teacher!
